North San Jose has been attractive for home buyers who look for new townhomes and single family residence. New communities were popping left and right back in 2005 and 2006. Now all existing new constructions are at their final stages. For example, Hampton Park by Taylor Morrison is down to the very last building. Villa at Lundy by Toll Brothers has a couple of model units remaining. Messina Gardens / Grandview Terrace by Pinn Bros is on hold at the moment. Where can home buyers go now? Pulte just announced their latest community, Pepper Lane, right in the heart of North San Jose at Berryessa and Jackson. The lot is about 20 acres for 300 attached townhouses of 2 to 3 bedrooms. The plan was approved in 2008 and three years later, I’m glad to see a high quality national builder like Pulte is starting the construction despite the drop in nationwide new-homes construction.
San Jose Mercury News: New-home construction plunges in February
This shows that builders have confidence in the San Jose housing market. As a long time San Jose resident, I like that Pepper Lane is an in-fill development. The lot was an orchard and has been vacant for over 20 years. It’s about time that we build houses right where jobs and amenities are and also close to the major public transit such as the future BART station. In the plan, it also includes park, retail shops and restaurants which are all welcomed for that neighborhood. I sincerely hope that Pepper Lane will be a good addition to the community overall.
